New Patient Exam - The new patient exam is typically 90 minutes long to allow enough time to take an extensive history, complete a physical exam, and review treatment options. After making an appointment, a comprehensive intake form will be sent and must be filled out completely prior to being seen. Follow-up Visit - Follow-up visits are expected for most patients. Patients will usually be seen every other week for several months depending on the diagnosis and response to treatment. These visits are typically 20-30 minutes. Meet and Greet - This brief appointment is available for prospective patients to determine if they are appropriate for the clinic. It is usually 10-15 minutes long and the fee for this appointment can be applied as credit toward the New Patient Exam should.

3 Common Types of Patients In Our Office

1) Pain patients - These patients have pain of the face, jaw, neck, or mouth. The pain has been present usually for several months, and it is not uncommon for patients have seen several other healthcare providers prior to finding this office.

2) Sleep patients - These patients have usually completed an overnight sleep study and have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea by their physician. Most of these patients have tried CPAP and are seeking a more comfortable alternative. Patients who are curious about sleep apnea or snoring can also be guided to proper diagnosis and treatment.

3) Consultation patients - These patients are planning to have surgery or braces but have persistent pain or dysfunction. Frequently, patients are referred to this office by their surgeon or orthodontist for an evaluation prior to moving forward.

Testimonials

I am writing this testimonial because Dr. Bryan Kim has been so very competent, professional, caring and kind. I was motivated to seek help with my jaw pain, with a diagnosis of myalgia and capsulitis. Both have been resolved. During the course of treatment over many months, Dr. Kim always remained hopeful and encouraging as well as efficient and proficient, providing a successful treatment plan that suited my particular problem. I was always treated with the utmost respect and dignity by Dr. Kim, and he made me feel comfortable and at ease with his positive attitude. Dr. Kim is a special individual who inspires confidence as well as caring. I would highly recommend Dr. Bryan Kim for his professional expertise and considerate manner to any patient needing his services.

 About Dr. Kim

- College: UC Berkeley, Molecular and Cellular Biology
- Dental School: UCLA School of Dentistry
- Residency: UCLA Orofacial Pain & Dental Sleep Medicine
- Involved in research at the undergraduate and graduate level
- Published in Neuroscience

Dr. Kim was born and raised in southern California about an hour east of Los Angeles. Although he is the son of a dentist, he resisted his father's gentle nudging toward dentistry and looked to go into the financial industry with an emphasis in biotech companies. During the middle of an interview, he realized that he wanted more personal interactions and to apply biology more directly to his career and decided to apply to dental school.

He entered dental school expecting to go into general practice with his father, but while sitting in a meeting he went to only for the free food, his interest in Orofacial Pain was piqued. He was accepted into the full-time UCLA residency program and is now limiting his practice to only treating patients with pain and sleep apnea. His father has had to endure an ironic second disappointment.

Dr. Kim enjoys traveling with his wife, eating larger portions that he should, and trying not to exercise too frequently.
